Modern Sonnet Productions set us up with three great artists from Houston for this Saturday:
Quiet Morning & the Calamity began as the singer-songwriter project of Sean Ramos until he assembled the full band, a god-honest homage to Alternative Country groups of the 90's and early 2000's (Uncle Tupelo, Drive By Truckers, Whiskeytown, Lucero, etc.), comprised of ex-punk rock musicians (Jimi Cavazos, Nate Cavazos, Josh Artall and Hillary Harris) and created what the band is now and where it was meant to be all along.
Ryan Lee Hansson, a songwriter from Houston, plays Texas folk music with lonesome, silky vocals set over dusty fingerpicked guitar.
Kevin Taylor Kendrick is an Indie Folk musician that was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Over the years, Kevin learned to play various instruments like guitar, banjo, and mandolin from different family members. At age 17, Kevin wrote "The Art of Ball and Chain," the first song that would eventually wind up on his recently released debut full-length Afternoon and Early Evening. This album provides an intimate account of Kevin’s honest emotion, documenting his personal struggles and transformative experiences over the past few years. Nominated for Best Songwriter at the 2011 Houston Press Music Awards, Kevin went on to win Best Folk Act from Houston Press in 2012.
Taps still open at 5, but we'll be starting the music at 7 after it's a bit cooler outside. Food by Pik Pak Push, a new Filipino-American fusion food truck.
